Clerides didn't disassociate himself from anything there. What he did was to EXPLAIN what Athens' main concern was, which was and still is ATTEMPTS AT BORDER CHANGES IN THE REGION!........the name issue helps to keep such insane aspirations alive. The crux of the matter was, is and always will be about national borders and inviolability of such.
