Phoenix With A Bayonet

I was taking a long, lonely walk downtown the other day and happened to stumble onto the tiny bookshelf labelled "Eastern Europe" covering Greece in Strand's Bookstore , and happily came across a dusty, yellowed copy of Phoenix with a Bayonet: A Journalist's Interim Report on the Greek Revolution
by Bayard Stockton , on sale for fifteen dollars.

The book jacket sidebar promised a refreshingly positive look at Greek dictator Papadopoulos and the Greek Revolution of April 21 , 1967 , the blurb heralds Stockton's thesis that "the Colonels made mistakes...but they also enjoy the support of the Greek people who would, Stockton suggests, return the Papadopoulos regime to power if elections came tomorrow"

Mind you this book was written in 1970 , years before the 1973 Ioanides debacle over the Polytechnic University riot, martial law, the ousting of Papadopoulos and the Cyprus Tragedy of 1974, which has ever since become the classic propaganda leverage justifying the leftist counter-coup by the anti-Nationalist forces currently ruling Greece.

In 1984, an imprisoned and defeated Papadopoulos did have a nominal chance to be re-elected through democratic means of his short-lived political party that managed to get just under three percent of the vote...that percentage seems to have also become a syndrome of Nationalist parties in Greek general elections for the past twenty years or so.

On the whole the book is a difficult read, because of the writer's lack of any prose style whatsoever and the tedious poverty in word selection and constant repetition. Some interesting information could come from reading this book...details of the hard-line Nationalist contingent, led by Secretary-General Ladas, within the Revolution, pushing for a more militant line against Turkey. Some details on the blossoming of the Revolutionary youth organization Alkimi, "the Valiant" that by the summer of 1970 included some 22,000 members from primary and secondary schools. The authour claims to have witnessed a mass oath taking ceremony in Karaskaiki stadium, during which youth swore to uphold "Greek and Orthodox Christian Orthodoxy". The authour details how the Revolution also ousted scores of Marxist and liberal professors from academia and renewed emphasis on purified modern Greek or Katharevousa in the academy and in elementary schooling.

The book's photographs include several poses that the Leadership of the Revolution had taken alongside church leaders and public addresses to literally throngs of Greek people alongside the ,then , Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Hieronymous.

The books also makes mention of a strict morality code passed on to high schools by the Leadership that called for enforcement of:

1) Prohibitions on girls riding bicycles to school and showing too much leg.
2) Slacks and high or mini-skirts , even on week-ends.
3) Compulsory church attendance on Sundays
4) Compulsory greeting of teachers in the streets, even though the instructors can ignore the pupils.
5) Rigid enforcement of standard hair styles; long hair on boys brings an automatic five day suspension from school and indiscriminate kicks and slaps in the presence of other students.

The various conspiracies by Makarios and the King are worked over rigorously and are quite tiring to go over, as is the planning and implementation of the coup itself. Whose one redeeming quality was that it caught the Americans and indeed the entire world unawares. The authour actually reiterates what many analysts have said about the Greek Revolution of April 21, 1967--there is no evidence that it was planned or approved by the United States.

The vast public works projects undertaken by the Leadership included new petro-chemical refineries and ship building yards as well as some minor business dealings with the Soviet Union , after all , business is business.

I have yet to finish Phoenix With A Bayonet, due to its unattractive writing style . If I ever do finish it, I plan to write a more detailed review and perhaps compare and contrast it with Taki Theodoracopoulos's vastly superior english language book on the Greek Revolution of April 21, 1967, titled, The Greek Upheaval, written in the late 1970s and ,sadly, out of print and very hard to find.

This is a sombre photo gallery on the current massacres of Orthodox Christians by Israeli firepower in and around the Church of Nativity.

What the Crusades Were Really Like

The article below was published by an online Catholic source, as expected it fails to mention the enormous damage caused to Eastern Orthodox Christianity by Catholic Crusaders. In all fairness, the article does mention an alleged apology by the Papal abomination to Constantinople. Hopefully, further scholarship will reveal the true target of Catholic Crusader adventurism and its wicked intent to degrade and feed off of Eastern Orthodoxy. After all, Catholics and various other heretics , to this day, target Eastern Orthodoxy when looking for converts and new territory as evidenced by present well-financed missions to penetrate the historic realms of Byzantium, that is--the Balkans, the Levant and Eurasia.

Thomas Madden on the Crusades and Today

ST. LOUIS, Missouri, OCT. 12, 2004 (Zenit) - Present-day tension between the West and Muslim countries has very little to do with the Crusades, says a historian.

In fact, Thomas Madden, chair of the history department at St. Louis University and author of "A Concise History of the Crusades," contends that, from the Muslim perspective, the Crusades were not worth noticing. That changed when 19th-century revisionists started to recast the Crusades as imperialist wars, he says[Full Story]

OXI (NO) Day Revisited

OXI (NO) Day Revisited. I will keep posting this every year at this time, until our history , the history of our fathers, our grandfathers and our Fatherland and of the great Hellenic Nationalist leader Metaxas is given the respect it deserves.

************************************************************************************
OXI Day Revisited

"There is a touching note written in longhand by Lela Metaxas, widow of Metaxas, about the days leading up to the Italian ultimatum on 28 October 1940, in which, among other things, she reports,

'Eight days before 28 October 1940, I believe a Sunday, returning from the Ministry, Metaxas sat at a table for lunch and in a cheerful mood said,'Now they can come, we are ready. We will defeat them.' There were only the two of us at the table, and what impressed me was his calmness and the satisfaction etched on his face. I was very impressed because after the torpedoing of the cruiser Elli which was a signal-and no one was to mention the episode-I had forgotten what he said exactly then at the same place but vaguely somethingto the effect 'now we will keep quiet, we will ignore the torpedoist until the time is right, when we will be ready. We shall take our revenge, but we must get ready first.'

And so to 3 a.m. when we heard suddenly the telephone ring. Surprised we wondered who it could be at that hour. He put on his dressing gown and hurried to the phone. Travlos of Security was at the other end of the line who told Metaxas that the French Ambassador was asking to see him. Travlos had made a mistake: it was actually the Italian Ambassador, Grazzi, who was at the door. He returned to our room and said, 'What's up with Maugras (?); what indiscretion and how inconsiderate at this ungodly hour.' He straightened his hair quickly and went to meet him. He opened the main entrance door; they entered into the lounge with the desk in the middle of the room in front of the large green divan in which E. Grazzi sat to the right. Their conversation began calmly, but soon I heard an animated exchange, and an angry tone in my husband's voice followed by a loud bang of the palm of his hand on the top of the desk. It was the exact moment of the 'OXI' (NO), and there followed Grazzi's departure.

When he returned to our room Metaxas told me right away, 'We are at war; Imust dress quickly.' He was ready in fifteen minutes and rang first the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where his office was located instructing it to inform the King and the border guard posts. Then he briefed Nicoloudis (Undersecretary for Press and Information), and Sir Michael Palairet of the British Embassy who was spending the summer nearby in Kifissia. All this happened within minutes as the Italian ultimatum expired at 6 a.m. We received Palairet and Nicoloudis in the main entrance, when Metaxas told them we are at war; help us for we are ready to fight for our country's honour. Then he returned to our room and told me, 'God is our help,' and that he may not be back home till late at night. But as it turned out he was back for lunch.'

-----
Vlachos (ed. founder and publisher of KATHIMERINI newspaper) gives us a vivid picture of the scene outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs very early in the morning of 29 October 1940, only hours after Grazzi had handed the Duce's ultimatum to Metaxas, and the outbreak of war.

'All of Athens was out in the street... Thousands of people shouting and trampling over the Ministry's garden and orchard, having also surrounded Metaxas's parked car. Metaxas himself was by the outer gate surrounded by his two bodyguards, whom he ordered to step aside as the crowd got to him and swept him on its shoulders across to Army GHQ. I saw the dictator live the best moment of his life.(1,pp.64-66)...The open cable Metaxas sent to all Greek embassies abroad concluded that the Italian Ultimatum meant war and added that Greece will defend itself with all its forces against the Italian invasion.' (i,p.67)

---

In the meantime he sought assistance with food and other essential provisions from Turkey. The capture of Koritsa a month later sent the cheering Athenians out in the streets again.

The so-called "massacre" of Muslims in Srebrenica hoax

Kathimerini english edition reports that Independent MP Andreas Andrianopoulos has "called on Parliament to investigate whether Greek volunteer fighters who joined Serb forces in Bosnia took part in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre".

This idea of Greek complicity in the so-called "massacre" of Muslims in Srebrenica was first circulated by pro-Jewish /pro-Western pundit Takis Michas, and as I predicted a few years ago, it would only be a moment of time before the puppet government that rules Greece would follow suit and seek to persecute the noble resistance fighters who sought to defend fellow Orthodox faithful from massacre.

Serbian Unity Congress has published an illuminating analysis of the evidence,or lack thereof, presented to the Hague "Tribunal" , including the testimony of a major witness , the UN commander for Bosnia whose name is Philippe Morillon, unveiling the dubious nature of the so-called "massacre" of Muslims in Srebrenica hoax.

Some excerpts:

"The fall of Srebrenica in 1995 was the “direct reaction” to the massacres of Bosnian Serbs by Naser Oric’s forces in 1992-1993. Morillon acknowledged that Oric’s troops had committed war crimes in eastern Bosnia. Morillon personally witnessed the exhumation of the bodies of Bosnian Serb civilians and soldiers who had been tortured, mutilated, and executed. He saw with his own eyes the Serbian villages that had been burned to the ground in the Srebrenica pocket. More than anyone else, Morillon understood the level of devastation in eastern Bosnia and the extent and nature of the massacres of Bosnian Serbs. "

"The Bosnian civil war was planned and orchestrated by the government of the United States. The US ambassador to Yugoslavia, Warren Zimmermann, was directly responsible for starting and perpetuating this needless civil war. In other words, the US government was responsible for the Bosnian civil war and the subsequent loss of life there. "

"During World War II, Bosnia-Hercegovina was the scene of one of the worst civil wars. The Croat and Bosnian Muslim factions engaged in a genocide against the Bosnian Serbs. The potential for a repeat of the World War II carnage was seen by all. This is why a compromise agreement was reached in 1992 known as the Lisbon Plan. Only the US government ignored this potential for conflict and recklessly pushed for a Muslim-dominated state in Europe."

"The first ethnic attacks and ethnic murders in Bosnia were committed against Bosnian Serbs. Even before the civil war began, Serbian civilians had been murdered in Bosnia by Bosnian Muslims and Croats. Milosevic showed that the first ethnic murder occurred in downtown Sarajevo when Bosnian Serb Nikola Gardovic was killed."

"... the first person killed in the Bosnian civil war on March 2, 1992 was a Bosnian Serb, Nikola Gardovic. He was killed by Bosnian Muslim gunmen in front of the Old Serbian Orthodox Church in Sarajevo, which was built in the XIth century. Gardovic was participating in a Serbian wedding in downtown Sarajevo when he was killed. The wedding was an Orthodox wedding relying on Orthodox customs and rituals which included the Serbian flag. India, where Hitler is a textbook hero

Articles like these bring some hope to the muddled fields of "multiculturalism". The irony of cultural relativism, the reality of the non-Western World is that it has been so victimized by the democratic West,as is reflected in their historical views.

To the Indian,African,Asian or Arab--there is no more cruel a historical tyrant than the parliamentary democracies of France and England, the fat sows who always preached "human rights" for themselves, but not for "them". What Easterner would not love to see a day and night blitzkrieg of London day-in-day-out , until eventually this Imperial capital gets degraded into becoming a third-rate power? Concurrently, what a joy it must be for an Arab to see France crushed under an enemy's boot for a change?

Paradoxically, the interpretations of historical chapters and players that in the West have become anathema, are re-interpreted in the East ,those very villains to the West are remembered as heroes to the East.

David Irving on Hitler's Admiration For Greeks

British historian David Irving is widely considered to be the greatest living authority on German Second World War documents and historical primary sources in general pertaining to the Second World War. His prolific historical writing career has included such bestsellers as Hitler's War, which has recently been translated into Greek.

Recently David Irving had an interview with major Greek daily newspaper Eleftheros Typos

Here's an excerpt, from the man who can claim to have shaken more hands that have shaken Hitler's hand than any man alive today:

What is your opinion about the role of the Greece in the World War II?

Brave and honorable; Hitler had great admiration for the Greeks and for all that they had done for civilization, and he greatly disliked having to make war against Greece, as he told his staff (men like Walther Hewel, whose diary I have used); he instructed them that he wanted to treat the defeated Greek nation honourably. The Italians put pressure on him to act differently.

Hellenic Nationalist Perspective On The American Corporate And Diplomatic anti-Greek Agenda

Hellenic Nationalist Perspective recently published two new articles exposing misograecism in NBC and in the Anglo-American administration surrounding the Annan plan.

NBC and the Olympics – Revisited is an extremely well-written expose on NBC's anti-Greek agenda , as reflected by its various mediums and affiliates as well as through its Olympic commentators.

Saudi Aramco On How The Parthenon Was Once A Mosque

Interestingly, I came across an article tonight ,published in the official publication of Saudi Aramco, the Saudi-American Petroleum Giant that pumps, drills and exports some 90 percent of Saudi Oil, or rather , the American company that controls the majority of the world's oil supply. In its own words ,Saudi Aramco is a fully integrated international petroleum company with the world's largest oil reserves - over one quarter of the global total.

The article makes loud mention of how the Parthenon was once a Mosque, and on how old prints used to depict minarets around Athens' most cherished architectural wonder.

Isn't it interesting, and timely, that the official organ of the fabulously wealthy and influential Saudi Aramco has such a fixation on Islam in Greece?

Considering the growth of multiculturalism from abroad in Greece, it makes perfect sense that a transnational American corporation would target the common and traditional religious make-up of Greece by advancing arguments favoring the bygone days of Turkish occupation.

Greek Press Blackout on Saudi-Funded Islamic Center and Mosque in Athens

Arab News reported on October 1st that the Greek government will be voting on the Saudi-Funded Islamic Center and Mosque in Athens "next week." This announcement was plastered all over the Arab press and has made the homepage of The Saudi-U.S. Relations Information Service (SUSRIS)

Strangely...despite the very hostile public opinion and Greek church resistance to the proposed building of this grand Mosque in Athens, not one Greek press article mentions that the Greek government voted on it ,or will vote on it, even in passing.

Could this be a Greek press blackout?

Julian the Apostate mentioned in one of St. Kosmas the Aitolian's parables

The following comes from a Hellenic Nationalist comrade.
**********************

Julian the Apostate mentioned in one of St. Kosmas the Aitolian's parables

The following is a translation from one of Saint Kosmas the Aitolian's parables concerning the sign of the cross. Aside from the important religious instruction Saint Kosmas offers us, the parable also makes mention of Julian the Apostate, the pagan emperor of the East Roman Empire, and the sorcery involved in bringing about his ascent to power and inevitable descent into eternal damnation shortly thereafter.

Aside from telling us that the Julian mentioned eventually became anemperor, we are also given other major pieces of evidence which prove conclusively that the man described was none other than Julian the Apostate: the fact that he studied with Basil the Great (which Julian the Apostate did) and the fact that he only ruled for 2 years just asJulian the Apostate did (from AD 361 to AD 363).

For the most part my translation of the parable from Greek to English is pretty literal translation without any major attempt on my behalf to make the text flow better by substituting words and alteringsentence structure for a more readable translation. Although, I did make some very minor changes for better readability and comprehension these should not subtract from the original text in the least. Foranyone interested, I also have the original Greek available for transcription.

As for the text itself it was copied from a book titled "Kosmas oAitolos (1714-1779): Synaxarion - Didachai - Profiteiai - Akolouthia",published in 1971 (4th revised edition), and with a prologue and notes by Bishop Augoustinos N. Kantiotis, Metropolitan of Florina.

Here it is:

With Clean Hands the Sign of the Cross

Do you want to hear another one about the sign of the cross, how it doesn't work, when the hand is unclean from sin? There was a person named Julian, who was studying with Basil the Great, and wished to become emperor. He goes then and finds a Jewish sorceror and says to him: "Are you capable of making me emperor and for me to make you visier?" The sorcerer says to him: "Renounce Christ and I will make you one." Julian says to him: "I deny Him." The sorcerer then makes a symbol and says to him: "Take this parchment, go to an ancient Greek tomb and throw it high and demons will appear; and whatever they do to you don't get frightened and don't cross yourself because they will leave." Julian went to the tomb and, throwing the parchment, the demons were summoned. Scared, he crossed himself and the demons left. He returns straight to the sorcerer and tells him what happened. Then the sorcerer says to him: "Go and slaughter a child and bring me his heart." He left and slaughtered a child and brought him his heart. Then the sorcerer summons the demons again. He, again out of his fear, crossed himself; but the demons were not scared away because he was tainted from the murder. That is how he consummated his wishes and ruled as emperor for two years before going to Hell to burn forever. We, too, must be clean from sin, and then the devil leaves.

Multiculturalism in Greece by Kostas Karaiskos

This is an interesting post that I swiped off Shamir Readers@yahoogroups....it provides a fair overview on the illogical Western import known as "multiculturalism" that has fairly recently been forced down every Greek's throat, regardless of the fact that Greece, unlike Western Europe and North America, lacks a colonial legacy as well as any viable number of minorities.

Subject: Multiculturalism in Greece by Kostas Karaiskos

Here is an interesting talk by our friend Kostas Karaiskos, the editor of the Greek newspaper Antifonitis. It was given at the Kiev Conference I wrote to you about.

Multiculturalism in Greece

Multiculturalism is the last ideological trend that has been imported in Greece from the West. In my spiritually colonialised and politically occupied country, there is such a (bad) tradition of about two centuries. It was the 90s when this well known type of intellectual – importer started propagandizing the supposed enrichment of our democracy with multiculturalism. The contradiction that has been developed about the ideological assumptions and the consequences alike, especially in Greek case, has an extra aspect and a global interest. Results in Greece will not be only about the cohesion or the integrity of my country, but it will also refer to the contemporary man’s meaning of life. The meaning that has been formed under the influence of eternal Greek spirit, core of man’s heritage.

Which is the reality in Greece today? Beyond 95% resident population is of Greek origin, Greek-speaking and they belong to Orthodox Church. It is the outcome of mass population transfers between Balkan neighbours after wars, under violent or not circumstances. During an unavoidable historical process, Hellenism residing in Odessa, Alexandria, Constantinople or Vienna ceased to exist. The poor return was the high national purity of the metropolitan state.

This absolutely clear situation begun to change after 1989. Hundreds of thousands immigrants entered the country, that is on the borderline from the East of poverty to the West of welfare, a nearby capitalist country for them. Albanians, Polish, Russians, Pakistanis, Bulgarians, Chinese, Nigerians, Kurds and other distressed people with their unintended presence created the political environment for the application of multicultural ideas in practice. Propaganda machine started working: «We are now a country with different cultures, languages, religions, traditions... How can we speak about Greek state, about prevailing religion, about Greek-orthodox values in public education? Shouldn’t we care about others’ right in difference and diversity, shouldn’t we procure for the protection of their cultural distinctiveness?»

This touching, humanistic approach of the immigrants by the multi-culti intellectuals, which reaches even to distort the obvious reality – about increase of unemployment and criminality – in order to fight racial stereotypes and potential phenomena of xenophobia, is easily proved hypocritical. Firstly, it is connected with economic interests: the reduction of the production cost, the wage freeze, the illegal labour, the dissolution of the syndicates, all these created a big wealth for some members of upper classes in Greece. Secondly, the examples they use usually come from countries either formed by immigrants - that is to say non nation states – or ex colonial empires who receive today waves of immigrants from their previous colonies, although even there the contradiction remains strong. Which can be the relation of new, Greek state with Canada, Australia, Holland or Britain? Additionally, what kind of capabilities does this state have, so that it can be a melting pot or a place of coexistence for different ethnic or cultural communities? And last but not least it is the attitude of the very same people against the political refugees in Greece. Their outrageous indifference for politically active foreigners who came to our country as implorers is absolutely typical. They don’t create economy, they don’t intend to stay for ever, you cannot take advantage of them. On the contrary, they create bilateral problems, they disturb the placidity of our consumers and they do not accept their ethnic cleansing: Internationalists or not, they remain Kurds, Turks or Palestinians to the disappointment of the cosmopolitans.

Beyond these, globally known, elements, criticism in Greece has one more interesting dimension, which is referred to the factor «language». The etymological transparency of Greek language, which we have the honour to speak, offers an additional protection against obsessions, propaganda and myths. It brings out the oxymoron which is presented to us as the future of contemporary democracy. It has to be either multiculturalism or society. In western world the word «society», coming from the latin «societas», calls up financial interests and needs, that is to say a particular hierarchy of priorities in organizing human life. But in Greek language the word «κοινωνία» calls up the community (κοινότητα), the Agora, the Ecclesia, the political life. Our language here – as in so many other places as well – keeps inside it another perception of life, another civilization. This civilization was rescued during the medieval years in social-centric – Sir Steven Runciman said «socialistic» – Byzantium, even during Ottoman times through Greek communities. These are the major problems that professor Yannaras has comprehensively dealt with in his unique lifework. So, when people of different cultural origin meet each other in the same place, they can form society, but they cannot form «κοινωνία». Common cultural characteristics are required not as a procrustean demand but in the spirit of our traditional, democratic «about». This multiplicity, against all purities and all dogmatisms, which is permitted by Greek «λόγος», has been brought out by another heretic Greek intellectual, professor Zuraris.

Another paradigm for the shield of Greek language is the loathsome nationalism. Although in Latin linguistic heritage it is obviously connected with the fact of birth (nation), in Greek language the homologous word is «εθνικισμός», coming from homeric word «έθνος», that is to say «έθος – ήθος». What we have here is the absolute priority of the cultural criterion, the most essential identity of human. It is noteworthy that the stronger cultural element, religion, was forming human communities not only in Byzantium and in Ottoman Empire – with the system of millet – but even in free Greek state. Faith in Christ was the Greek identity in Revolution times and the same religious criteria determined the mutual population transfer between Greece and Turkey one century afterwards. All these above are not trying to describe something out of the known, miserable conditions of human societies. I just want to note another way of reading reality, another culture, unfortunately darkened and forgotten by the very natural descendants of its creators.

In this frame of general decline the multicultiralists do not hesitate to undermine old or ancient Greek values and individuals. They don’t want us just to accept the «Other» besides us, but – with the help of relativism – to lose every confidence from our past: Heroes of Greek Revolution, historical facts, intellectuals of modern Greece (like Seferis, Elytis, Kavafis) are discredited. There must be left no ground under our feet. Ancient Athens means slavery, Great Alexander means imperialism, Constantinople means obscurantism. Works like Black Athena of Martin Bernal defame the origins of ancient world from the afrocentric point of view or with politically correct fictions. In Greek universities, institutes, conferences, the only you can hear is about «constructing identities», «ethnic stereotypes», etc. Every difference, every diversity, everything that could disorganize a collective sense is used against «nationalism» – «chauvinism» – «racism». Exactly as every democrat in Cold War times was suspicious for being communist, today every patriot is ranked among Far-right and neo-nazis. Whoever is not with us, is against us, due to well known western approaches.

We believe that Greek vision of life, as it has been expressed in Minoan or Theran frescos, in Parthenon or in Agia Sofia, in democratic institutions and spiritual production of thousands of years, is not a matter of 10.000.000 Greek-speaking people. It is what really added another sapiens in contemporary situation of humanity. Even if Pushkin, Hoelderlin, Byron and Hugo were too idealists as they approached Greek paradigm, this does not mean that it can be equated with nomadic or Neolithic civilizations. After all it is absolutely hypocritical, since what embellishes human life today all over the world is democracy, music, theatre, architecture, athletics, philosophy, poetry. Greece.

Let us ... give thanks for our common Hellenic paideia, through which we became civilized and did not remain the wild beast-like creatures we once were. We younger peoples only ceased to be barbarous and wild when we came into contact with Hellenic civilization. It is this defining incident in the history of European man that unites us all. (Dr. Frederico Sagredo, Professor of Classics, President of the Basque Hellenic Society of Spain)

Nationalist Party On The Rise In Belgium

A very recent article in Hellenic Lines heralds the rise of Belgian Nationalist party VLAAMS BLOK. Hellenic Lines informs us that this is Belgium's largest political party according to polls and is poised to sweep the upcoming Belgian elections. Belgium is also a nation that built a huge chunk of its wealth from sub-saharan African colonial relationships, thus it is swarmed with different genotypes.

The rival to VLAAMS BLOK is the Socialist Party which has 26 local parliamentarians , 14 of which are immigrants, and their party secretary is a Turk.

This Turkish-Belgian Socialist Party has been campaigning to dismantle Brussels' Monument in Remembrance to the Armenian Genocide, yet, without shame, accuses the rival VLAAMS BLOK of racism!

VLAAMS BLOK is dead-set against the entry of Turkey into the EU and has dared to bring up recognition of Turkey's Genocides as a prerequisite, something which Greece with its far-left,socialist-left,center-left and current "center-right" ruling parties would tremble in fear of even contemplating.

It's shameful that countries with a weak tradition of Nationalism, such as Belgium and France have thriving and professional Nationalist parties that dare to challenge the American-Israeli status quo. Yet fewer than three-percent of the Greek electorate in Greece can palate even a soft nationalist such as Karatzaferis much less a democratic Nationalist party such as Hellenic Front with not even a percent.

Priests want gay sex tests for newcomers

A Greek priests’ union has suggested that aspiring clerics should undergo tests, including having their hormone levels checked, to confirm they are not gay.

In comments reported yesterday, top spokesmen for the Holy Union of Greek Clerics (ISKE) said that, to avoid “unpleasant situations,” those who wanted to take orders should be examined by an endocrinologist, a psychologist and a pathologist to establish that they had not engaged in sex with other men.

ISKE said it wanted to protect families from “the accursed disease” of sodomy. “Homosexuality is dangerous. Before Christ came to earth, he sent an angel to kill all homosexuals,” said Father Efstathios Kollas, a union leader.

Another spokesman argued that a Church ban on pre-marital sex — with women — led priests to pick unsuitable wives, “the best of which is only fit for the circus.”

Rabbi: Israelis Must Stop Spitting on the Cross

Lawmaker Rabbi Michael Melchior (Labor Party) says the phenomenon should be tackled through educational means. "I would expect prominent figures among the religious and ultra-Orthodox sectors, such as the chief rabbis, to denounce this phenomenon," he says.

Religious Jews, among them yeshiva students, customarily spit on the ground as a sign of disgust on seeing the cross. The Armenians, who live adjacent to the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, suffer from this phenomenon more than any of the other Christian sects in the Old City.

Michael Hoffman Memo:
The truth is, Orthodox Judaics are commanded to utter a curse whenever they pass a Christian church or cemetery, and to spit at or near any Cross they see.

Armenian archbishop quizzed over spat with yeshiva student

By Amiram Barkat
Oct. 11, 2004
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/486934.html

The Armenian archbishop in Israel, Nourhan Manougian, was questioned under warning by police yesterday after he slapped a yeshiva student during a procession marking the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem's Old City. The archbishop slapped the student after the latter spat at the cross the Armenians were carrying and at Manougian himself.

The incident developed into a brawl during which Manougian's ceremonial medallion, which has been used by Armenian archbishops since the 17th century, broke.

The yeshiva student was also detained for questioning

Police are now considering whether to initiate criminal proceedings against the Armenian archbishop and to charge him with assault. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked much anger among the clergy of the small Armenian community in Jerusalem.

Religious Jews, among them yeshiva students, customarily spit on the ground as a sign of disgust on seeing the cross. The Armenians, who live adjacent to the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, suffer from this phenomenon more than any of the other Christian sects in the Old City.

Manougian says he and his colleagues have already learned to live with it. "I no longer get worked up by people who turn around and spit when I pass them by in the street; but to approach in the middle of a religious procession and to spit on the cross in front of all the priests of the sect is humiliation that we are not prepared to accept," he notes.

A policeman is customarily posted to guard the Armenians' religious processions, but doesn't generally do anything to prevent the spitting. TheArmenians took the matter up with Interior Minister Avraham Poraz some seven months ago, but nothing has been done about till now.

"The Israeli government is anti-Christian," Manougian charges. "It cries out in the face of any harm done to Jews all over the world, but is simply not interested at all when we are humiliated on an almost daily basis."

Lawmaker Rabbi Michael Melchior (Labor Party) says the phenomenon should be tackled through educational means. "I would expect prominent figures among the religious and ultra-Orthodox sectors, such as the chief rabbis, to denounce this phenomenon," he says.

Christians in Jerusalem want Jews to stop spitting on them

Christians in Jerusalem want Jews to stop spitting on them
By Amiram Barkat
Ha'aretz
Oct 12 2004

A few weeks ago, a senior Greek Orthodox clergyman in Israel attended a meeting at a government office in Jerusalem's Givat Shaul quarter. When he returned to his car, an elderly man wearing a skullcap came and knocked on the window. When the clergyman let the window down, the passerby spat in his face.

The clergyman prefered not to lodge a complaint with the police and
told an acquaintance that he was used to being spat at by Jews. Many
Jerusalem clergy have been subjected to abuse of this kind. For the
most part, they ignore it but sometimes they cannot.

On Sunday, a fracas developed when a yeshiva student spat at the cross being carried by the Armenian Archbishop during a procession near the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City. The archbishop's 17th-century cross was broken during the brawl and he slapped the yeshiva student.

Both were questioned by police and the yeshiva student will be
brought to trial. The Jerusalem District Court has meanwhile banned
the student from approaching the Old City for 75 days.
But the Armenians are far from satisfied by the police action and say
this sort of thing has been going on for years. Archbishop Nourhan
Manougian says he expects the education minister to say something.
"When there is an attack against Jews anywhere in the world, the
Israeli government is incensed, so why when our religion and pride
are hurt, don't they take harsher measures?" he asks.

According to Daniel Rossing, former adviser to the Religious Affairs
Ministry on Christian affairs and director of a Jerusalem center for
Christian-Jewish dialogue, there has been an increase in the number
of such incidents recently, "as part of a general atmosphere of lack
of tolerance in the country."

Rossing says there are certain common characeristics from the point
of view of time and location to the incidents. He points to the fact
that there are more incidents in areas where Jews and Christians
mingle, such as the Jewish and Armenian quarters of the Old City and
the Jaffa Gate.

There are an increased number at certain times of year, such as
during the Purim holiday."I know Christians who lock themselves
indoors during the entire Purim holiday," he says.
Let's not forget Julius Streicher's last words before his hanging,"Purim Fest, 1946."

Former adviser to the mayor on Christian affairs, Shmuel Evyatar,
describes the situation as "a huge disgrace." He says most of the
instigators are yeshiva students studying in the Old City who view
the Christian religion with disdain.

"I'm sure the phenomenon would end as soon as rabbis and well-known
educators denounce it. In practice, rabbis of yeshivas ignore or even
encourage it," he says.

Evyatar says he himself was spat at while walking with a Serbian
bishop in the Jewish quarter, near his home. "A group of yeshiva
students spat at us and their teacher just stood by and watched."
Jerusalem municipal officials said they are aware of the problem but
it has to be dealt with by the police. Shmuel Ben-Ruby, the police
spokesman, said they had only two complaints from Christians in the
past two years. He said that, in both cases, the culprits were caught
and punished.

He said the police deploy an inordinately high number of patrols and
special technology in the Old City and its surroundings in an attempt
to keep order.

Dienekes' Anthropology Blog

I just discovered that the Dienekes Pontikos's Anthropological Research Page <http://dienekes.angeltowns.net/ > , now has a revamped sleek look and a very active and intellectual blog: http://dienekes.blogspot.com/

I plan to be visiting quite often, Dienekos Pontikos's Anthropological research Page is a very important intellectual contribution to Hellenism on the web and has some very original material that debunks both Nordic and Afro-centric falsifiers on the origins of the Hellenic Nation.

Greek Orthodox Saints and Canons Against Abortion

The Saints and the Church Speak Out About Abortion!

The following represent the teaching of the Church from the [early] second century through the fifth century.... Note that penalties, when they are given, are neither civil nor criminal, but ecclesiastical and pastoral (excommunication for the purpose of inducing repentance). Also note that these quotes deal with both surgical and chemically induced abortion, both pre- and post-quickening. All quotes are from “The Church Fathers on Social Issues”, Department of Youth Ministry of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

From the Letter to Diognetus (speaking of what distinguishes Christians from pagans): “They marry, as do all others; they beget children but they do not destroy their offspring” (literally, “cast away fetuses”).

From the Didache (Teachings of the 12 August Apostles): “You shall not slay the child by abortions.”

From the Letter of Barnabus: “You shall not destroy your conceptions before they are brought forth; nor kill them after they are born.”

From St. Clement: “Those who use abortifacients commit homicide.”

From Tertullian: “The mold in the womb may not be destroyed.”

From St. Basil the Great: “The woman who purposely destroys her unborn child is guilty of murder. The hair-splitting difference between formed and unformed makes no difference to us.”
From St. Augustine: “Sometimes their sadistic licentiousness goes so far that they procure poison to produce infertility, and when this is of no avail, they find one means or another to destroy the unborn and flush it from the mother’s womb. For they desire to see their offspring perish before it is alive or, if it has already been granted life, they seek to kill it within the mother’s body before it is born.”

From St. John Chrysostom: “Why do you sow where the field is eager to destroy the fruit? Where there are medicines of sterility? Where there is murder before birth? You do not even let a harlot remain only a harlot, but you make her a murderess as well. Indeed, it is something worse than murder and I do not know what to call it; for she does not kill what is formed but prevents its formation. What then? Do you condemn the gifts of God, and fight with His laws? What is a curse you seek as though it were a blessing? Do you make the anteroom of slaughter? Do you teach the women who are given to you for a procreation of offspring to perpetuate killing?”

Canon XCI: As for women who furnish drugs for the purpose of procuring abortions, and those who take fetus-killing poisons, they are made subject to penalty for murderers.

Canon II: “A woman who aborts deliberately is liable to trial as a murderess. This is not a precise assertion of some figurative and inexpressible conception that passes current among us. For here there is involved the question of providing for the infants to be born, but also for the woman who has plotted against her own self. For in most cases the women die in the course of such operations, but besides this there is to be noted the fact that the destruction of the embryo constitutes another murder.... It behooves us, however, not to extend their confessions to the extreme limit of death, but to admit them at the end of the moderate period of ten years, without specifying a definite time, but adjusting the cure to the manner of penitence.”

Canon XXI: “Regarding women who become prostitutes and kill their babies, and who make it their business to concoct abortives, the former rule barred them for life from communion, and they are left without resource. But having found a more philanthropic alternative, we have fixed the penalty at ten years, in accordance with the fixed degrees. ...”

“As for women who destroy embryos professionally, and those (non-prostitutes) who give or take poisons with the object of aborting babies and dropping them prematurely, we prescribe the rule that they, by economy, be treated up to five years at most.”

FBI Stooges Seize Global Indymedia Servers
by SASCHA MEINRATH (NYC IMC)

THE FBI [US Federal Bureau of Investigation] took the hard drives of Global IMC servers in the USA and the UK. It appears that a court order was issued to Rackspace (Indymedia's service provider with offices in the US and in London) to physically remove the hard drives from Global Indymedia servers (backup servers are now in place).

Rackspace was given no time to defend against the order before it was acted upon and turned over the hard drives, both in the US and the UK. The servers hosted numerous local IMCs, including UK Indymedia, Belgium, African imcs, Palestine, UK, Germany, Brasil, Italy, Uruguay, Poland, Belgrade, Portugal and others.

During the Republican Convention, the ISP of the NYC IMC was informed that it was the subject of a Secret Service / FBI investigation into an article submitted to its Open Newswire identifying delegates at the RNC.

While the FBI has made it clear to members of the press that the investigation is ongoing, there is not necessarily a connection between events in NYC and the FBI's seizure of the Rackspace servers. Currently, much of the speculation about the reasons for the FBI's move centers around photographs posted to the IMC-Nantes website.

The FBI's latest anti-free-press actions began at the beginning of October when they visited Indymedia's ISP demanding the removal of identifying information from photographs of undercover police officers that was posted on the Nantes Indymedia website.

When asked what the US government was doing requesting the removal of information from a French-run website that contained information about Swiss police actions, the FBI stated that this was a "courtesy" to the Swiss government. The FBI agents stated that no laws had been broken, and no crimes had been committed. However, because no identifying information was posted on the website in question, it was unclear what actions the FBI was requesting.

The article in question is/was posted here:
http://nantes.indymedia.org/article.php3?id_article=3910

On Tuesday October 5th, Indymedia received the following message from Rackspace:

"I apologize for the delay in responding. I have been trying to get a hold of the FBI agent I spoke with before, but haven't been able to at this time. As the request originated with the Swiss police, I can only speculate on what they saw or what they were concerned about. However, at this time, I have received no further communications from either the FBI or the Swiss authorities, so I feel like we can close this this issue."

Today the FBI seized Global Indymedia servers; however it is unclear if this is related to the Nantes issue or is a second FBI concern within the past week.

(14:20) Rackspace has issued a "no comment" response concerning the FBI's actions.

Update On Getting A Greek "Educashun" (sic!)

Today's Macedonian Press Agency reported that a slew of Athens National University officials have been arrested for embezzling upwards of 7 million euros during the early to mid 1990s for their own personal luxuries. I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few of these officials used the funds to send their own kids to a University in England or the United States.

As expected, the officials are out on bail, as is the usual case with people of monetary means and heavy Greek political party connections.

Macedonian Press Agency reports:
"According to the case against them, university funds were used to purchase luxury sanitary ware and marbles that ended up in privately owned villas, while one of the defendants even bought a Ferrari with university money."

As I stated in my original blog entry on Getting A Greek "Educashun" (sic!), most Greek family patriarchs are concerned with their villa, with building a second or third home, or with getting an Anglo-Saxon college education for their whore daughters and homosexual sons.

What respect these esteemed officials have for the higher education of the Greek Nation! It doesn't surprise me. I've yet to met a Greek graduate who can hold a conversation on "intellectuals" that are not mentioned in the latest edition of Davlos or Rizospastis.

It also is highly unlikely that these arrests indicate a reform of Greek "Educashun"(sic!). The fact that these arrests are based on embezzlements that occurred during the PASOK regime lean heavily on the assumption that these officials were PASOK appointees. The arrests were merely a behind-the-scenes reshuffling to install New Democracy supporters/relatives/activists into the now vacated seats.

So maybe , just maybe when PASOK gets the throne back in a few years, they can in turn arrest the present officials and re-install their own PASOK supporters/relatives/activists.

No Smoking Please

I got news early this morning that the New York City Department of Health showed up at my apartment door with a warning. Apparently they got news that someone (that's me!) was smoking cigarettes in the building hallway. The fine is $1,000 or up to sixty days in prison.

The New York City administration following the lead taken by California in relatively recent years has enacted draconian anti-smoking laws affecting all indoor areas.

As I walked down several flights of stairs I noticed new orange colored stickers in the building lobby designating the building a "smoke-free area."

Now this must be the greatest of hypocrisies about the United States. While the U.S. is the greatest mass producer of tobacco products, nuclear weapons and industrial pollution in the world it also acts as if it is concerned about some cigarette smoke to the point that it sends inspectors to knock on your door in the evening to issue warnings about cigarette smoking.

In most areas of Asia,Europe,Africa and Latin America one can have the freedom to smoke without looking over one's shoulder.

As if it were not enough that the new anti-smoking laws have decimated New York City's once thriving bar culture, the New York City administration also claims that the new anti-smoking ban will potentially save the government billions in future health care costs.

Most people in Greece have the false impression that America is an ultra-conservative society hell-bent on reviving the Mussolini state. All the while this is the one land in the world where Negro convicts are adored by men and women as if they were the greatest thing since the wheel ,while America supplies the vast majority of porn to the world.

WHY OH WHY AM I LIVING HERE???

Mental Instability In Greece

I couldn't help but reflect on how many Greeks, both in the public and private sphere, in politics and in domestic life, in historical and cultural appetites, suffer from high degrees of self-delusion. According to a recent report , mental instability may be reaching crisis levels. My theory is that is not only the diaspora that suffers from a removal of what sociologist Alain de Benoist terms "the natural organic community".

Modern life is pushing all of us over the precipice that ends with the sanitarium, the straightjacket and mouth-gag.

The New Bi-Polar World:America-Israel versus The Rest of Humanity: Globalization versus Nationalism

I came across a greatly illuminating address to a gathering of the Institute of Historical Review, by historian Mark Weber.

Weber breaks down the current conflict raging in Iraq from his perspective as a trained historian of the Second World War and as one of world's leading revisionist historians. Some interesting points include his conclusions that we are offered an alternative, the alternative of Ayatollah. Iran is the one dynamic state that challenges Israel head-on and ,moreover, it offers this example as theocracy. Sooner or later, Nations tend to revert to form, Russia and Persia and Greece have long traditions of authoritarianism , for example.

In fact, the greatest epoch of Hellenic greatness occurred under the absolute rule of an emperor during the millennium-long age of Byzantium

More and more, with each passing day, the chiliastic death struggle between America-Israel versus the entire world becomes more and more apparent.

When will our Nation revert to form, and finally break the foreign shackles of parliamentary democracy that enslave the Fatherland?

The Reality of Henry Miller

There are relatively few blogs and/or websites on the web that expound on Hellenic Nationalism.

Some merely tip-toe around Hellenic Nationalism while really promoting American "traditional conservatism" or in the case of one heavily trafficked blog, even promoting pro-Zionist American "neo-conservatism." In this entry I will not follow their now tired rhetoric of either notalgia for the bygone days of pre-Second World War America as is the case with American "traditional conservatism" or complaining about the lack of anti-Muslim sentiment in the current "center-right" regime ruling Greece as is the case with some relatively popular "neo-conservative" blog ( I won't mention any names, but you know who you are).

In this entry I will re-publish an essay on my favorite writer, Henry Miller. This essay below was swiped off a literary site,< http://www.bopsecrets.org/index.shtml> ,geared toward literary situationists. I do not have the least interest in situationists nor in the May 1968 Parisian "counter-cultural revolution" which they heralded . However, Henry Miller does not deserve to be permanently hijacked by the left.

Henry Miller had expressed extreme distaste for electoral democracy, the "liberation" of women, and described the "counter-cultural revolution" in France and America of the late 1960s as a mere "skirmish" rightly branding the participants as bourgeois children with a comfortable life that would soon enough settle down, it was and is a false revolution. For the Nation is all around us, it is not abstract, it is not conceived by the scribbles of horrifically learned men. The academy in Western Europe and America has naturally ignored Henry Miller. As a native-born American , he was a true un-American and the original anti-American, his Air-Conditioned Nightmare, relates the meaninglessness of a soul-less and, moreover, nation-less landscape built on Holocausts and materialism. Like the literary giants Céline and Dostoevsky, modern Americans and Western Europeans have also condemned him as an "anti-Semite". Despite living through the Second World War and its aftermath, Henry Miller never offered one line repeating the official versions of history, as interpreted by the victors. Unlike most post-Second World War Westerners, he called for a destruction of America in his works shortly after the U.S. completed the good war.

I disagree wholehearteldy with the essayist, that Henry Miller was a pagan. Far from it, his travelogue on Greece , Colossus of Maroussi, is filled with praise for the heroic deeds of modern Greece, and for its Greek Orthodox spirit.

A true Nationalist Revolution would necessitate a recovery of literary greatness, with a rejuvenated Nation, a new Golden Age of culture would be sure to follow. It is time that we take back what has been hijacked.

One day, all these hippie-cunts, despised by real artists , will hide in the woods like hunted elves.

*****************************************
The Reality of Henry Miller

It is a wonderful thing that some of Henry Miller's work at last is coming out in a popular edition in the United States. Henry Miller is a really popular writer, a writer of and for real people, who, in other countries, is read, not just by highbrows, or just by the wider public which reads novels, but by common people, by the people who, in the United States, read comic books. As the Southern mountain woman said of her hero son, dead in Korea, Mister, he was sure a great reader, always setting in the corner with a piece of cold bread and one of them funny books. In Czech and Japanese, this is the bulk of Miller's public. In the United States he has been kept away from a popular public and his great novels have been banned; therefore only highbrows who could import them from France have read him.

I once crossed the Atlantic eighteen days in a Compagnie Générale Transatlantique freighter with a cabin mate, a French African Negro, who was only partially literate, but who was able to talk for hours on the comparative merits of Black Spring and the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. When he found out I came from California and knew Miller, he started treating me as if I were an archangel newly descended, and never tired of questions about le Beeg Sur and les camarades de Monsieu Millaire. He had a mental picture of poor Henry living on a mountain-top, surrounded by devoted handmaids and a bevy of zoot-suited existentialist jitterbugs.

This picture, I have discovered, is quite commonly believed in by people who should have better sense. Miners in the Pyrenees, camel drivers in Tlemcen, gondoliers in Venice, and certainly every poule in Paris, when they hear you're from California, ask, first thing, in one voice, Do you know Monsieu Millaire? This doesn't mean he isn't read by the intellectuals, the cultured people over there. He is. In fact, I should say he has become part of the standard repertory of reading matter everywhere but in England and the United States. If you have read Balzac, or Baudelaire, or Goethe, you are also expected to have read Miller. He is certainly one of the most widely read American writers, along with Upton Sinclair, Jack London, Fenimore Cooper, William Faulkner and Erskine Caldwell.

This is the way it should be. Nothing was sadder than the "proletarian novelist" of a few years back, the product of a sociology course and a subscription to a butcher-paper weekly, eked out with a terrified visit to a beer parlor on the other side of the tracks and a hasty scurry past a picket line. Nobody read him but other Greenwich Village aesthetes like himself. The people Henry Miller writes about read him. They read him because he gives them something they cannot find elsewhere in print. It may not be precisely the real world, but it is nearer to it than most other writing, and it is certainly nearer than most so-called realistic writing.

Once the written work was the privilege of priests and priestly scribes. Although thousands of years have passed, vestiges of that special privilege and caste artificiality still cling to it. It has been said that literature is a class phenomenon. Can you remember when you first started to read? Doubtless you thought that some day you would find in books the truth, the answer to the very puzzling life you were discovering around you. But you never did. If you were alert, you discovered that books were conventions, as unlike life as a game of chess. The written word is a sieve. Only so much of reality gets through as fits the size and shape of the screen, and in some ways that is never enough. This is only partly due to the necessary conventions of speech, writing, communication generally. Partly it is due to the structure of language. With us, in our Western European civilization, this takes the form of Indo-European grammar crystallized in what we call Aristotelian logic. But most of the real difficulty of communication comes from social convention, from a vast conspiracy to agree to accept the world as something it really isn't at all. Even the realistic novels of a writer like Zola are not much closer to the real thing than the documents written in Egyptian hieroglyphics. They are just a different, most complex distortion.
Literature is a social defense mechanism. Remember again when you were a child. You thought that some day you would grow up and find a world of real adults " the people who really made things run " and understood how and why things ran. People like the Martian aristocrats in science fiction. Your father and mother were pretty silly, and the other grownups were even worse " but somewhere, some day, you'd find the real grownups and possibly even be admitted to their ranks. Then, as the years went on, you learned, through more or less bitter experience, that there aren't, and never have been, any such people, anywhere. Life is just a mess, full of tall children, grown stupider, less alert and resilient, and nobody knows what makes it go as a whole, or any part of it. But nobody ever tells.

Henry Miller tells. Andersen told about the little boy and the Emperor's new clothes. Miller is the little boy himself. He tells about the Emperor, about the pimples on his behind, and the warts on his private parts, and the dirt between his toes. Other writers in the past have done this, of course, and they are the great ones, the real classics. But they have done it within the conventions of literature. They have used the forms of the Great Lie to expose the truth. Some of this literature is comic, with a terrifying laughter Cervantes's Don Quixote, Jonson's Volpone, Machiavelli's Mandragola, Shakespeare's King Lear. Some of it is tragic, in the ordinary sense, like the Iliad, or Thucydides' history, or Macbeth. In the last analysis it is all tragic, even Rabelais, because life itself is tragic. With very few exceptions, however, it is all conventional. It disguises itself in the garments of harmless artistic literature. It sneaks in and betrays the complacent and deluded. A great work of art is a kind of Trojan Horse. There are those who believe that this is all there is to the art of poetry sugar-coating the pills of prussic acid with which the poet doses the Enemy.

It is hard to tell sometimes when Miller is being ironic and when he is being naïve. He is the master of a deadpan style, just as he has a public personality that alternates between quiet gentleness like a dentist, he describes it and a sort of deadpan buffoonery. This has led some critics to consider him a naïve writer, a "modern primitive," like the painter Rousseau. In a sense this is true.

Miller is a very unliterary writer. He writes as if he had just invented the alphabet. When he writes about a book, he writes as if he were the first and only man who had ever read it and, furthermore, as if it weren't a book but a piece of the living meat whacked off Balzac or Rimbaud or whoever. Rousseau was one of the finest painters of modern times. But he was absolutely impervious to the ordinary devices of his craft. This was not because he was not exposed to other artists. He spent hours every week in the Louvre, and he was, from the 1880s to the eve of the First World War, the intimate of all the best painters and writers, the leading intellectuals of Paris. It didn't make any difference. He just went his way, being Henri Rousseau, a very great artist. But when he talked or wrote, he spouted terrible nonsense. He wasn't just a crank, but quite off his rocker in an amiable sort of way. This is not true of Miller.

In some mysterious way, Miller has preserved an innocence of the practice of Literature-with-a-capital-L which is almost unique in history. Likewise he has preserved an innocence of heart. But he is not unsophisticated. In the first place, he writes a muscular, active prose in which something is always going on and which is always under control. True, he often rambles and gets windy, but only because he likes to ramble and hear his head roar. When he wants to tell you something straight from the shoulder, he makes you reel.

Now the writer most like Miller in some ways, the eighteenth-century naïf, Restif de la Bretonne, is certainly direct from the innocent heart, but he can be as tedious as a year's mail of a Lonely Hearts Club, with the same terrible verisimilitude of a Mature woman, broadminded, likes books and music writing to Bachelor, fifty-two, steady job, interested in finer things. And, in addition, Restif is full of arrant nonsense, every variety of crackpot notion. If you want the common man of the eighteenth century, with his heart laid bare, you will find him in Restif. But you will also find thousands of pages of sheer boredom, and hundreds of pages of quite loony and obviously invented pornography. Miller too is likely at times to go off the deep end about the lost continent of Mu or astrology or the occult, but it is for a different reason. If the whole shebang is a lie anyway, certainly the amusing lies, the lies of the charlatans who have never been able to get the guillotine in their hands, are better than the official lie, the deadly one. Since Hiroshima, this attitude needs little apology. Some of our best people prefer alchemy to physics today.

There aren't many people like Miller in all literature. The only ones I can think of are Petronius, Casanova, and Restif. They all tried to be absolutely honest. Their books give an overwhelming feeling of being true, the real thing, completely uncooked. They are all intensely masculine writers. They are all great comic writers. They all convey, in every case very powerfully, a constant sense of the utter tragedy of life. I can think of no more chilling, scalp-raising passages in literature than the tolling of the bell from the very beginning of Casanova's Memoirs: the comments and asides of the aged man writing of his splendid youth, an old, sick, friendless pauper in a drafty castle in the backwoods of Bohemia. And last, and most important, they were all what the English call spivs. Courtier of Nero or Parisian typesetter, they were absolutely uninvolved; they just didn't give a damn whether school kept or not.

The French like to compare Miller with Sade. But nowadays they like to compare everybody with Sade. It is the currently fashionable form of Babbitt-baiting over there. The comparison is frivolous. Sade is unbelievably tedious; Diderot stood on his head, a bigot without power, an unemployed Robespierre. In the eighteenth century the French writers most like Miller are the "primitive" Restif, and Mirabeau when, in some of his personal writings, he really works up a lather.

Miller has often been compared with Céline, but I don't think the comparison is apposite. Céline is a man with a thesis; furthermore, he is a litterateur. In Journey to the End of the Night, he set out to write the epic of a Robinson Crusoe of the modern soul, the utterly alienated man. He did it, very successfully. Céline and his friends stumble through the fog, over the muddy ruts with the body of Robinson, in a dénouement as monumental as the Nibelungenlied. But it is all a work of art. I have been in the neighborhoods Céline describes. They simply aren't that awful. I am sure, on internal evidence of the story itself, that his family wasn't that bad. And, like Malraux and some others, he is obsessed with certain marginal sexual activities which he drags in all the time, willy-nilly.

Céline makes a sociological judgment on Robinson. Miller is Robinson, and, on the whole, he finds it a bearable role, even enjoyable in its way. The modern French writers who most resemble Miller are Carco, without the formulas, Mac Orlan, if he weren't so slick, Artaud, if he weren't crazy, and Blaise Cendrars. Cendrars is a good European and Miller is only an amateur European, but Europe has been going on so long that the insights of the amateur are often much more enlightening.

Henry Miller is often spoken of as a religious writer. To some this just seems silly, because Miller is not especially profound. People expect religion to come to them vested in miracle, mystery, and authority, as Dostoevski said. The founders of the major religions are pretty well hidden from us by the accumulation of centuries of interpretation, the dirt of history the lie you prefer to believe. Perhaps originally they weren't so mysterious and miraculous and authoritarian. Mohammed lived in the light of history. We can form a pretty close idea of what he was like, and he wasn't very prepossessing in some ways. He was just naïvely direct. With the simple-mindedness of a camel driver he cut through the welter of metaphysics and mystification in the Near East of his time. Blake dressed his message up in sonorous and mysterious language; but the message itself is simple enough. D. H. Lawrence likewise. You could write it all on a postage stamp: Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin. Your official reality is a lie. We must love one another or die. I suppose any writer who transcends conventional literature is religious insofar as he does transcend it. That is why you can never actually base an educational system on the "Hundred Best Books." A hundred of the truest insights into life as it is would destroy any educational system and its society along with it.

Certainly Miller is almost completely untouched by what is called religion in England and America and northern Europe. He is completely pagan. This is why his book on Greece, The Colossus of Maroussi, is a book of self-discovery as well as a very true interpretation of Greece. It is thoroughly classic. Although he never mentions Homer and dismisses the Parthenon, he did discover the life of Greece: the common, real life of peasants and fishermen, going on, just as it has gone on ever since the Doric invasions. A world of uncompromised people, of people if not like Miller himself, at least like the man he knew he wanted to be.

His absolute freedom from the Christian or Jewish anguish of conscience, the sense of guilt, implication, and compromise, makes Miller humane, maybe even humanistic, but it effectively keeps him from being humanitarian. He might cry over a pet dog who had been run over, or even punch the guilty driver in the nose. He might have assassinated Hitler if he had had the chance. He would never join the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the Friends Service Committee. He is not involved in the guilt, and so in no way is he involved in the penance. This comes out in everything he writes, and it offends lots of people. Others may go to bullfights and write novels preaching the brotherhood of man. Miller just doesn't go to the bullfight in the first place. So, although he often raves, he never preaches. People have been taught to expect preaching, practically unadulterated, in even the slick fiction of the women's magazines, and they are offended now if they don't find it.

Fifty percent of the people in this country don't vote. They simply don't want to be implicated in organized society. With, in most cases, a kind of animal instinct, they know that they cannot really do anything about it, that the participation offered them is a hoax. And even if it weren't, they know that if they don't participate, they aren't implicated, at least not voluntarily. It is for these people, the submerged fifty percent, that Miller speaks. As the newspapers never tire of pointing out, this is a very American attitude. Miller says, I am a patriot of the Fourteenth Ward of Brooklyn, where I was raised. For him life has never lost that simplicity and immediacy. Politics is the deal in the saloon back room. Law is the cop on the beat, shaking down whores and helping himself to apples. Religion is Father Maguire and Rabbi Goldstein, and their actual congregations. Civilization is the Telegraph Company in Tropic of Capricorn. All this is a quite different story to the art critics and the literary critics and those strange people the newspapers call "pundits" and solons.

I am sure the editors of our butcher-paper liberal magazines have never sat in the back room of a sawdust saloon and listened to the politicians divide up the take from the brothels that line the boundary streets of their wards. If they did, they would be outraged and want to bring pressure to bear in the State Capitol. With Miller, that is just the way things are, and what of it?
So there isn't any social message in Miller, except an absolute one. When you get through reading the realistic novels of James Farrell or Nelson Algren, you have a nasty suspicion that the message of the author is: More playgrounds and properly guided social activities will reduce crime and vice. There is nothing especially frightful about Miller's Brooklyn; like Farrell's South Side, it is just life in the lower middle class and upper working class section of a big American city. It certainly isn't what queasy reviewers call it, "the slums." It's just the life the reviewers themselves led before they became reviewers. What outrages them is that Miller accepts it, just as do the people who still live there. Accepting it, how he can write about it? He can bring back the whole pre-World War I America the bunny hug, tunes from The Pink Lady, Battling Nelson, Dempsey the Nonpareil, Pop Anson and Pearl White, a little boy rushing the growler with a bucket of suds and a sack of six-inch pretzels in the smoky twilight of a Brooklyn Sunday evening.

I think that is what Miller found in Paris. Not the city of Art, Letters, and Fashion but prewar Brooklyn. It is certainly what I like best about Paris, and it is what I get out of Miller's writing about Paris. He is best about Paris where it is still most like 1910 Brooklyn. He doesn't write about the Latin Quarter, but about the dim-lit streets and dusty little squares which lie between the Latin Quarter and the Jardin des Plantes, where men sit drinking beer in their shirt sleeves in front of dirty little bars in another smoky Sunday twilight. He is better about the jumble of streets between Montrouge and Montparnasse with its polyglot and polychrome population of the very poor, than he is about Montparnasse itself and its artists' life. He practically ignores Montmartre; apparently he concludes that only suckers go there. But he writes very convincingly about that most Brooklyn-like of all the quarters of Paris, the district near the Military Academy on the Place du Champs de Mars, now filling up with Algerians and Negroes, where the subway becomes an elevated, tall tenements mingle with small bankrupt factories and people sit on the doorsteps fanning themselves in the Brooklyn-like summer heat, and sleep and couple on the summer roofs.

So his intellectuals in Paris are assimilated to Brooklyn. They may talk about Nietzsche and Dostoevski, but they talk like hall-room boys, rooming together, working at odd jobs, picking up girls in dance halls and parks. "Batching" is the word. Over the most impassioned arguments and the bawdiest conversations lingers an odor of unwashed socks. The light is the light of Welsbach mantles on detachable cuffs and unmade beds. Of course that is the way they really talked, still do for that matter.

There is a rank, old-fashioned masculinity about this world which shocks the tender-minded and self-deluded. It is far removed from the Momism of the contemporary young American male. This is why Miller is accused of writing about all women as though they were whores, never treating them as "real persons," as equals. This is why he is said to lack any sense of familial love. On the whole, I think this is true. Most of the sexual encounters in the Tropics and The Rosy Crucifixion are comic accidents, as impersonal as a pratfall. The woman never emerges at all. He characteristically writes of his wives as bad boys talk of their schoolteachers. When he takes his sexual relations seriously, the woman disappears in a sort of marshy cyclone. She becomes an erotic giantess, a perambulating orgy. Although Miller writes a lot about his kinship with D. H. Lawrence, he has very little of Lawrence's abiding sense of the erotic couple, of man and woman as the two equal parts of a polarity which takes up all of life. This again is Brooklyn, pre-suffragette Brooklyn. And I must admit that it is true, at least for almost everybody. A real wedding of equals, a truly sacramental marriage in which every bit of both personalities, and all the world with them, is transmuted and glorified, may exist; in fact, some people may have a sort of talent for it; but it certainly isn't very common. And the Great Lie, the social hoax in which we live, has taken the vision of this transcendent state and turned it into its cheapest hoax and its most powerful lie. I don't see why Miller should be blamed if he has never found it. Hardly anybody ever does, and those who do usually lose it in some sordid fashion. This, of course, is the point, the message, if you want a message, of all his encounters in parks and telephone booths and brothels. Better this than the lie. Better the flesh than the World and the Devil. And this is why these passages are not pornographic, but comic like King Lear and tragic like Don Quixote.

At least once, Miller makes up for this lack. The tale of the Cosmodemonic Telegraph Company in Tropic of Capricorn is a perfect portrait of our insane and evil society. It says the same thing others have said, writing on primitive accumulation or on the condition of the working class, and it says it far more convincingly. This is human self-alienation at its uttermost, and not just theoretically, or even realistically. It is an orgy of human self-alienation, a cesspool of it, and Miller rubs your nose in it. Unless you are a prig and a rascal, when you get through, you know, once and for all, what is the matter. And through it all, like Beatrice, if Beatrice had guided Dante through the Inferno, moves the figure of Valeska, who had Negro blood and who kills herself at the end one of the most real women in fiction, if you want to call it fiction.

Once Miller used to have pinned on his bedroom door a scrap of paper. Written on it was "S'agapo" the Greek for "I love you." In The Alcoholic Veteran he says, "The human heart cannot be broken."

The Christian Holocaust In Palestine, A.D. 614

As far as I can tell, this essay, sent to me by its author Israel Shamir, is making its first appearance on the web - it is a part of Galilee Flowers, a collection of essays by Israel Shamir. It has appeared in print in a condensed and edited form under the title "The Christian Holocaust In Palestine, A.D. 614"

The print article to the condensed form of this essay "The Christian Holocaust In Palestine, A.D. 614" has a painting by Quentin Masssys (1466-1530) titled Ecce Homo ("Behold the Man") showing Pontius Pilate handing over Jesus to be crucified, with the following caption: " One of Pilate's accomplishments was the digging of Mamilla Pool. Ironically, that reservoir would become the site of one of the world's worst-ever holocausts."

Mamilla Pool
I

Things move really fast nowadays. Just yesterday we hardly dared to call the Israeli policy of official discrimination against Palestinians by the harsh word "apartheid". Today, as Sharon's tanks and missiles pound defenceless cities and villages, the word barely suffices. It has become an unjustified insult to the white supremacists of South Africa. They, after all, did not use gun-ships and tanks against the natives, they did not lay siege to Soweto. They did not deny the humanity of their kaffirs. The Jewish supremacists made it one better. They have returned us, as if by magic wand, to the world of Joshua and Saul.

As the search for the right word continues, the courageous Robert Fisk proposes calling the events in Palestine a "civil war". If this is civil war, a lamb slaughter is a bullfight. The disparity of forces is just too large. No, Virginia, it is not "civil war", it is creeping genocide.

This is the point in our saga, where the good Jewish guy is supposed to take out his hanky and exclaim: "How could we, eternal victims of persecutions, commit such crimes!" Well, do not hold your breath waiting for this line. It happened before and it can happen again, for the mad idea of being the only Chosen ones, the idea of supremacy, whether of race or religion, is the moving force behind genocides. If you believe God chose your people to dominate the world, if you think others but subhuman, you will be punished by the same God whose name you took in vain. Instead of a gentle frog, he would turn you into a murderous maniac.

When the Japanese got a whiff of this malady in the 1930s, they raped Nanking and ate the liver of their prisoners. Germans, obsessed by the Aryan superiority complex, filled Baby Yar with corpses. As thoughtful readers of Joshua and Judges, the father pilgrim-founders of the United States tried on the "Chosen" crown and succeeded in nearly exterminating the Native American peoples.

The Jewish chosen-ness led to genocide time and again. Outside of Jerusalem's Jaffa gate (Bab al-Halil), there was once a small neighbourhood called Mamilla, destroyed by real-estate developers just a few years ago. In its place they created a kitschy "village" for the super-rich, abutting the plush Hilton Hotel. A bit further away there is the old Mamilla cemetery of the Arab nobles and the Mamilla Pool, a water reservoir dug by Pontius Pilate. During the development works, the workers came upon a burial cave holding hundreds of sculls and bones. It was adorned by a cross and the legend: "God alone knows their names". The Biblical Archaeology Review, published by the Jewish American Herschel Shanks, printed a long feature[i] by the Israeli archaeologist Ronny Reich on this discovery.

The dead were laid to their eternal rest in AD 614, the most dreadful year in the history of Palestine until the Twentieth Century. The Scottish scholar Adam Smith, wrote in his Historical Geography of Palestine: "until now, the terrible devastation of 614 is visible in the land, it could not be healed".

By 614 Palestine was a part of the Roman successor state, the Byzantine Empire. It was a prosperous, predominantly Christian land of well-developed agriculture, of harnessed water systems and carefully laid terraces. Pilgrims came in flocks to the Holy places. The Constantine-built edifices of the Ascension on the Mount of Olives and of the Holy Sepulchre were among the man-made wonders of the world. The Judean wilderness was enlivened by eighty monasteries, where precious manuscripts were collected and prayers offered. The Fathers of the church, St Jerome of Bethlehem and Origen and Eusebius of Caesarea, were still a living memory. One of the best Palestinian writers, on a par with the Minor Prophets, blessed John Moschos, just completed his Spiritual Meadow.

There was also a small, wealthy Jewish community living in their midst, mainly in Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Their scholars had just completed their version of the Talmud, the codification of their faith, Rabbinic Judaism; but for instruction they deferred to the prevailing Jewish community in Persian Babylonia.

II

In 614 local Palestinian Jews allied with their Babylonian co-religionists and assisted the Persians in their conquest of the Holy Land. 26,000 Jews participated in the onslaught. In the aftermath of the Persian victory, the Jews perpetrated a massive holocaust of the Gentiles of Palestine. They burned the churches and the monasteries, killed monks and priests, burned books. The beautiful basilica of Fishes and Loaves in Tabgha, the Ascension on the Mount of Olives, St Stephen opposite Damascus Gate and the Hagia Sion on Mt Zion are just at the top of the list of perished edifices. Indeed, very few churches survived the onslaught. The Great Laura of St Sabas, tucked away in the bottomless Ravine of Fire (Wadi an-Nar) was saved by its remote location and steep crags. The Church of the Nativity miraculously survived: when Jews commanded its destruction, the Persians balked. They perceived the Magi mosaic above the lintel as the portrait of Persian kings.

This devastation was not the worst crime. When Jerusalem surrendered to the Persians, thousands of local Christians became prisoners of war and were herded to the Mamilla Pool area. The Israeli archaeologist Ronny Reich writes:

They were probably sold to the highest bidder. According to some sources, the Christian captives at Mamilla Pond were bought by Jews and were then slain on the spot.
The Oxford Professor Henry Hart Milman's History of the Jews describes it in stronger terms:
It had come at length, the long-expected hour of triumph and vengeance; and the Jews did not neglect the opportunity. They washed away the profanation of the holy city in Christian blood. The Persians are said to have sold the miserable captives for money. The vengeance of the Jews was stronger than their avarice; not only did they not scruple to sacrifice their treasures in the purchase of these devoted bondsmen, they put to death all they had purchased at a lavish price. It was a rumour of the time that 90,000 perished.

An eyewitness to the massacre, Strategius of St Sabas, was more vivid:
Thereupon the vile Jews rejoiced exceedingly, because they detested the Christians, and they conceived an evil plan. As of old they bought the Lord from the Jews with silver, so they purchased Christians out of the reservoir How many souls were slain in the reservoir of Mamilla! How many perished of hunger and thirst! How many priests and monks were massacred by the sword! How many maidens, refusing their abominable outrages, were given over to death by the enemy! How many parents perished on top of their children! How many of the people were brought up by the Jews and butchered, and became confessors of Christ! Who can count the multitude of the corpses of those who were massacred in Jerusalem!
Strategius estimated the victims of the holocaust at 66,000.

In plain prose, the Jews ransomed the Christians from the hands of the Persian soldiers for good money to slaughter them at Mamilla Pool, and it ran with blood. Jews massacred between 60,000 and 90,000 Palestinian Christians in Jerusalem alone, almost 1.5 million in today's values (the total earth's population was according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica about 300 million, twenty times smaller than today). A few days later, the Persian military understood the magnitude of the massacre and stopped the Jews.

III

To his credit, the Israeli archaeologist Ronny Reich does not try to shift the blame for the massacres onto the Persians, as it is usually done nowadays. He admits that the Persian Empire was not based on religious principles and was indeed inclined to religious tolerance. This good man is clearly unsuitable to write for the Washington Post. That paper's correspondent in Israel would have had no trouble describing the massacre as "retaliatory strike by the Jews who suffered under Christian rule".

The holocaust of the Christian Palestinians in year 614 is well documented and you will find it described in older books. It has been censored out of modern guides and history books. Elliott Horowitz described, in his brilliant expose of the Jewish apologia[ii] how almost all Jewish historians suppressed the facts and re-wrote history. The cover-up continues even now. Recent Israeli publications attach the blame to the Persians, as they push the responsibility for Sabra and Shatila massacre onto the Lebanese Maronites. Horowitz writes:

Raul Hilberg, in The Destruction of the European Jews, asserted that "preventive attack, armed resistance, and revenge are almost completely absent in two thousand years of Jewish ghetto history". Avi Yona, a leading Israeli historian, Leon Polyakov, author of History of Anti-Semitism (published at the expense of Marc Rich, the thief - ISH) and many others glossed over the holocaust of 614, kept silent or denied it completely. Benzion Dinur, a former director of the Holocaust Museum Yad va-Shem, told his readers euphemistically, in language that might have offended him if used with regard to Jews, that "recalcitrant Christians were firmly held in check".

As a rule, Jewish historical and ideological writing is notoriously unreliable and apologetic, Horowitz shows. Granted, "not all Jews", vide Horowitz, Finkelstein and other wonderful men, but they would be the first to agree with the truth of the above. The feeling of self-righteousness and perpetual victim-hood reinforced by a tendentious, distorted historical narrative is a source of mental disease, an obsession common to many modern Jews. This obsession intoxicates Jews and gives them unusual strength in promoting their own distorted narrative. In a way, this massive distortion of reality turns Jews into victorious berserks of ideological struggle. Still, while being a successful strategy, it is a mental disease, a danger to the souls of Jews and to the lives of others.

The Jews are not unique. Germans were intoxicated by the injustice of Versailles, and Adolf Hitler voiced it. Eric Margolis of the Toronto Sun[iii] wrote about Armenians inflamed by the story of their holocaust. They massacred thousands of their peaceful Azeri neighbours in the 1990s, and uprooted 800,000 native non-Armenians. "It's time to recognize all the world's horrors", Margolis concludes. It is time to recognise the danger of inflammatory and one-sided narrative, I would add. The same system of tendentious reality-distorting narrative was deployed by the activists of militant feminism, communism, psychoanalysis, neo-conservatism, neo-liberalism, Zionism and a plethora of smaller movements as the means to enrage and intoxicate supporters for the ideological struggle.

As a result, we live in a psychotic, sick world. Our only system of communication, the media, is the enforcer of the malady and leads us to our perdition. It is necessary to promote balanced, alternative discourse in order to return to the common sense. Since the Jews have become so prominent in the modern world, the lopsided Jewish discourse has to be deconstructed and the crown of martyrdom carefully removed.

The tragic events of 614 should be returned into historical narrative, for it will help the Jews to heal their paranoid delusion. Without this knowledge one cannot understand the provisions of the treaty between the Jerusalemites and Caliph Omar ibn Khattab, concluded in year 638. In the Sulh al Quds, as this treaty of capitulation is called, Patriarch Sofronius demanded, and the powerful Arab ruler concurred to protect the people of Jerusalem from the ferocity of the Jews.
The genocide of the AD 614 was the most horrible, but not the only, genocide wreaked by Jews in those troubled years. Though the biblical story of the Canaan conquest by Joshua is just a story, it influenced Jewish souls. The Sixth Century was a century of strong Jewish influence, and it had more than its fair share of genocide.

Just a few years before 614, in 610, the Jews of Antioch massacred Christians. The Jewish historian Graetz wrote:
[The Jews] fell upon their Christian neighbours and retaliated for the injuries which they had suffered; they killed all that fell into their hands, and threw their bodies into the fire, as the Christians had done to them a century before. The Patriarch Anastasius, an object of special hate, was shamefully abused by them, and his body dragged through the streets before he was put to death.

For Graetz, as for IDF spokesmen, Jews always kill "in retaliation". This dogma was not invented by CNN and Sharon: it is deeply rooted in the Jewish psyche as the ultimate defence. This historian (like other Jewish historians) did not care to mention that

The Jews of Antioch disembowelled the great Patriarch Anastasius, forced him to eat his own intestines; they hurled his genitals into his face.[iv]

IV

After the Arab conquest, a majority of Palestinian Jews accepted the message of the Messenger, as did the majority of Palestinian Christians, albeit for somewhat different reasons. For local Christians, Islam was a sort of Nestorian Christianity without icons, without Constantinople's interference and without Greeks. (The Greek domination of the Palestinian church remains a problem for the local Christians to this very day.)

For ordinary local Jews, Islam was the return to the faith of Abraham and Moses. They had not been able to follow the intricacies of the new Babylonian faith anyway. The majority of them became Muslims and blended into the Palestinian population.

V

Modern Jews do not have to feel guilty for the misdeeds of Jews long gone. No son is responsible for the sins of his father. Israel could have turned this mass grave with its Byzantine chapel and mosaics into a small and poignant memorial reminding its citizens of a horrible page in the history of the land and of the dangers of genocidal supremacy. Instead, the Israeli authorities preferred to demolish the tomb and create an underground parking-lot in its place. That did not cause a murmur.

The guardians of the Jewish conscience, Amos Oz and others, have objected to the destruction of ancient remains. No, not of the tomb at Mamilla. They ran a petition against the keepers of the Haram a-Sharif mosque complex for digging a ten-inch trench to lay a new pipe. It did not matter to them that in an op-ed in Haaretz, the leading Israeli archaeologist denied any relevance of the mosque-works to science. They still described it as "a barbaric act of Muslims aimed at the obliteration of the Jewish heritage of Jerusalem". Among the signatories I found, to my amazement and sorrow, the name of Ronny Reich. One thought he might tell them who obliterated the vestiges of the Jewish heritage at Mamilla Pool.

Censored history creates a distorted picture of reality. Recognition of the past is a necessary step on the way to sanity. The Germans and the Japanese have recognized the crimes of their fathers, have came to grips with their moral failings and have emerged as humbler, less boastful folks, akin to the rest of human race. We Jews have so far failed to exorcise the haughty spirit of the Chosen-ness, and find ourselves in a dire predicament.

That is why the idea of supremacy is still with us, still calling for genocide. In 1982, Amos Oz[v] met an Israeli who shared with the writer his dream of becoming a Jewish Hitler to the Palestinians. Persistent rumours identify the potential Hitler as Ariel Sharon. Whether it is true or not, slowly this dream is becoming a reality.

The Haaretz published an ad on its front page[vi], a fatwa, signed by a group of Rabbis. The Rabbis proclaimed the theological identification of Ishmael (the Arabs) with the Amalek. ‘Amalek’ is mentioned in the Bible as the name of a tribe that caused trouble for the Children of Israel. In this story the God of Israel commands His people to exterminate the Amalek tribe completely, including its livestock. King Saul botched the job: he exterminated them all right, but failed to kill nubile, unwed maidens. This "failure" cost him his crown. The obligation to exterminate the people of Amalek is still counted among the tenets of the Jewish faith.
At the end of WWII, some Jews, including the late Prime Minister Menachem Begin, identified the Germans with Amalek, and a Jewish religious socialist and a fighter against Nazis, Abba Kovner, hatched a plot in 1945 to poison the water-supply system of German cities and to kill "six million Germans". He obtained poison from a brother of the future President of Israel, Efraim Katzir. Katzir supposedly thought Kovner intended to poison "only" a few thousands German POWs. The plan mercifully flopped when Kovner was stopped by British officials in a European port. This story was published last year in Israel in a biography of Kovner written by Prof Dina Porat, head of the Anti-Semitism Research Centre at Tel Aviv University[vii].

In plain English, the Rabbis' fatwa means: our religious duty is to kill all Arabs, including women and babies and their livestock to the last cat. The liberal Haaretz, whose editor and owner are sufficiently versed to understand the fatwa, did not hesitate to place the ad. Some Palestinian activists recently criticized me for associating with the Russian weekly Zavtra and for quoting the American weekly Spotlight. I wonder why they have not condemned me for writing in Haaretz? Zavtra and Spotlight have never published a call to genocide, after all.

It would be unfair to single out Haaretz. Another prominent Jewish newspaper, The Washington Post, published an equally passionate call to genocide by Charles Krauthammer[viii]. This adept of King Saul cannot rely upon his audience's knowledge of the Bible, so he refers to General Powell's slaughter of routed Iraqi troops at the end of the Gulf war. He quotes Colin Powell saying of the Iraqi army: "First we're going to cut it off, then we're going to kill it". For Krauthammer with his carefully chosen quotes, multitudes of slain Arabs do not qualify for the human pronoun "them". They are an "it". In the last stage of the war in the Gulf, immense numbers of retreating and disarmed Iraqis were slaughtered in cold blood by the US Air Force, their bodies buried by bulldozers in the desert sand in huge and nameless mass graves. The number of victims of this hecatomb is estimated from one hundred thousand to half a million. God alone knows their names.

Krauthammer wants to repeat this feat in Palestine. "It" is already cut off, divided by the Israeli army into seventy pieces. Now it is ready for the great kill. "Kill it!" he calls with great passion. He must be worried that the Persians will again stop the bloodbath before the Mamilla Pool fills up. His worries are our hopes.
